USA Network Snags Universal Slate, Including 'Bridesmaids,' 'Fast Five'

"Little Fockers" and "The Adjustment Bureau" will also premiere on the network in 2013.
In one of its biggest acquisitions, USA Network has acquired more than 30 films from its sister film studio Universal Pictures, it was announced Tuesday by Jane Blaney, executive vice president of programming, acquisitions and scheduling at USA and Frances Manfredi, executive vice president and general sales manager at NBCUniversal Domestic Television Distribution.
USA will have network television rights to several top box office performers, such as Bridesmaids, Fast Five, Little Fockers and The Adjustment Bureau. All four films are set to premiere on USA some time in 2013.
“This groundbreaking acquisition package represents our ongoing dynamic partnership with Universal to deliver blockbuster movies and A-list talent to our audience," said Blaney. “These films provide a strategic platform for our originals, while complementing our brand of character-based entertainment.”
The deal allows the films to premiere on other NBCUniversal networks, including NBC, Syfy, E!, Bravo, Oxygen, Style, G4, Chiller, Sleuth and UniHD.
Modern Family, which was acquired by USA, will make its debut in 2013 as it searches for a supplemental half-hour comedy, while NCIS: LA will make its network debut this fall.
USA has become increasingly focused on original programming as it finds itself in the middle of one of its busiest summer slates with eight scripted shows (Law & Order: Criminal Intent, White Collar, Burn Notice, In Plain Sight, Necessary Roughness, Suits, Covert Affairs and Royal Pains) running at one point in time. Among cable networks, USA continues to claim its No. 1 spot in the ratings.
