Usher to Exec Produce Education Doc 'Undroppable' (Exclusive)
Directed and written by Jason Pollock, the film explores the dropout epidemic in the U.S. educational system.
Usher has joined on as an executive producer for Undroppable, the documentary exploring the dropout epidemic in the U.S. educational system.
Directed and written by Jason Pollock, the film will be completed this year and released in 2014.
Usher was introduced to the film by Justin Bieber's manager Scooter Braun, who is also a producer on the project, along with Adam McKay, Sharon Chang, Alex Soros and John Powers Middleton. Usher and Braun worked together while launching the career of Bieber, who went on to become a pop superstar.
"I knew Usher was very passionate about the issue of education, so I felt this was a great project to bring him into. His expertise will be invaluable as we continue this film and movement," said Braun.
A social media campaign has been launched to coincide with the film. The campaign allows students to speak out in video form about the issues they face in school.
A music artist and recent coach on The Voice, Usher has been involved in several social issues; he founded a nonprofit, New Look, in 1999 that ensures young people have the tools they need to be global leaders.
Usher produced Bieber's concert doc, Never Say Never, and has appeared in some films, including She's All That and the upcoming Muppets Most Wanted. He's repped by WME and Grubman Indursky & Shire.
