LONDON -- Start-up U.K.-based international movie sales house Protagonist Pictures has hired Charlotte Van Weede as its head of sales.

Former Universal Pictures U.K. executive Ben Roberts, who heads Protagonist, is due to announce Van Weede's appointment Monday.

Van Weede joins Protagonist from HanWay Films, where she was director of sales and distribution. Prior to that, Van Weede held sales positions with Summit International and Intermedia Films here.

Van Weede will start ahead of this year's Festival de Cannes and be responsible for rolling out the recently announced sales slate that includes Tom Shankland's "The Day," Nicolas Winding Refn's "Bronson," Rupert Wyatt's "The Trail" and Alexis Dos Santos' "Unmade Beds."

Recently launched by Film4, Ingenious and Vertigo Films, Protagonist handles all aspects of international rights on certain films generated by the trio of partners.
