"I would have enjoyed returning to that wonderful city ... but my focus is on my health and well-being," the actress stated.

Lindsay Lohan didn't appear at the Venice Film Festival on Friday to promote the Bret Easton Ellis thriller The Canyons, but the starlet explained her absence a day later.

"I have to clear up these reports," Lohan wrote on her own site, including a photo with "To Venice, with love" as a caption. "I was never confirmed to attend. Of course, I would have enjoyed returning to that wonderful city and being a part of this amazing event, but my focus is on my health and well-being. Plain and simple, it is of the utmost importance."

Lohan completed a stint in rehab at the end of July. Canyons director Paul Schrader, who sits on jury of the festival's Horizons section, appeared at a news conference on Friday to speak about the film and noted that Lohan's personal issues were "off the table."

Though Lohan said she was not confirmed to attend, festival officials did say they expected her ahead of time, and she was listed on the festival's list of expected arrivals for Thursday, the day the rest of the Canyons' cast came to Venice.

The Canyons, which made its limited release theatrical debut in the U.S. on Aug. 2,  had its world premiere in London in July. It is slated to screen out of competition at the Venice festival.
