Verizon Fourth-Quarter Pay TV Subscriber Growth Accelerates

The telecom giant's FiOS video service added 116,000 subscribers, which competes with pay TV companies.

Telecom giant Verizon on Thursday reported that it signed up 116,000 net new pay TV subscribers for its FiOS video service in the fourth quarter.

It ended 2014 with a total of 5.6 million FiOS video connections. The FiOS TV service competes with cable and satellite TV companies. The fourth-quarter subscriber momentum compared with 92,000 net additions in the fourth quarter of 2013.

Verizon also said it added 145,000 net new FiOS broadband connections in the fourth quarter, up from 126,000 a year earlier, to finish the year with 6.6 million.

For the third quarter of 2014, Verizon had reported 114,000 net additions for its FiOS video service and 162,000 FiOS broadband customer net additions.
