Viacom lifts Folta, Robinson
EmptyViacom veterans Carl Folta and Carole Robinson have been promoted, with each receiving new executive vp titles.
Folta has been named executive vp corporate communications at Viacom. He succeeds Robinson, who has been appointed to the newly created position of executive vp and chief of staff at Viacom's MTV Networks.
Folta, who will serve as Viacom's chief communications strategist and spokesman, will report to Thomas Dooley, senior executive vp and chief administrative officer of Viacom. Folta was executive vp, office of the chairman, serving as adviser and spokesperson for Sumner Redstone, executive chairman of Viacom and CBS Corp.
In his new role, Folta will be responsible for Viacom's overall communications activities, internally and externally, as well as the coordination of communications at the company's operations, including MTV Networks, BET Networks, the Paramount Motion Picture Group and Famous Music. He also will have oversight for all financial communications and will direct media relations activities for industry issues and public affairs.
"Carl is a consummate communications professional who understands the strategic and financial complexities of our businesses and the industry," Viacom president and CEO Philippe Dauman said. "I know he will make a big contribution to Viacom in the future as we continue to expand and embrace the opportunities of the digital age."
Dooley added that he has known Folta for more than a decade, calling him "a highly effective leader and a seasoned communications counselor."
Robinson will now serve as a senior adviser to MTV Networks chairman and CEO Judy McGrath and will work closely with her strategy team to move forward key strategic initiatives. In addition, the corporate communications, research and creative services/special events departments at MTV Networks will report to Robinson, who also will be responsible for corporate marketing initiatives and will oversee general administrative duties for the company.

"I'm so happy to formally recognize Carole's contributions by expanding her role in our company and to have the benefit of her great instincts and knowledge of our brands, our leadership and our consumers."
Folta joined Viacom in 1994, while Robinson joined MTV in 1984.
