Vice President Joe Biden joined Twitter over the Fourth of July weekend: @VP.

He only has about 10,000 followers. The White House blog says that his staff will mostly be writing the updates and providing "a behind the scenes look at Veep-life."

"VP & Dr. B hope you take time to think about our troops & military families this Independence Day, Happy 4th from OVP!" his office wrote in the account’s first and only Tweet, referring to his wife, Dr. Jill Biden.

His boss, President Barack Obama, has nearly nine million followers. He recently handed over his account to his Obama 2012 campaign staff, but then announced that he'll be Tweeting and Facebooking himself as well.

On Wednesday, the White House will host its first ever Town Hall on Twitter. Obama will answer questions with the hashtag #AskObama. Twitter will host a site with a livefeed of the President answering questions.

Biden isn't the only notable to have recently joined the microblogging site.

The Pope joined last week. As of Tuesday, he has just over 68,000 followers.
