Mark Ruffalo Gets Creative Resurgence With Keira Knightley in 'Begin Again' Trailer (Video)
The John Carney film -- a hit at Toronto Film Festival and upcoming Tribeca closer -- stars Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, Hailee Steinfeld and Adam Levine.
The trailer for Begin Again, formerly titled Can a Song Save Your Life?, was released on Friday, and peeks into the creative process and resurgence of Mark Ruffalo's character, Dan.
At the beginning of the trailer, Ruffalo's character is fired from his record label, while Keira Knightley's Gretta is dumped by Adam Levine's Dave, even after following him to New York when he is signed to a major label. When Knightley takes the stage to perform a newly written song with her acoustic guitar, Ruffalo's producing instincts kick in, as the piano and drums start to play in his head and turn Knightley's raw track into a potential hit.
Shortly afterward, he offers to record her album -- but since they're without a studio, they opt to capture a live performance of each song in a different location, as Ruffalo and his crew are shown running through New York City subways, streets and parks with all their gear in tow.
Hailee Steinfeld, James Corden, Catherine Keener and a comedic Cee Lo Green also appear in the trailer for the John Carney film, which made a splash at the Toronto Film Festival in September, when it sold to The Weinstein Co. (Exclusive Media continues to handle international sales on the film). Begin Again will also close the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival in April, and is scheduled to be released in July.
The trailer debuted on Today on Friday morning.
