'Gang Related': Fox Creates Venice Beach Mural to Promote Series (Exclusive Video)
The Hollywood Reporter has a behind-the-scenes look at how the artwork was created.
Fox is taking a unique approach to promoting its new series Gang Related.
Rather than simply relying on a billboard, the network recently took over a wall in Venice Beach, Calif., where artists painted a mural to promote the show.
"They wanted something that was both a combination of sort of a tattooed look and also something that they could also have a mural feel," says mural illustrator Mike Butkus. (Watch the video below to see the finished product and a behind-the-scenes look at how it was created.)
The series stars Ramon Rodriguez (Need for Speed) as a Detective Ryan Lopez, a rising star in Los Angeles’ elite Gang Task Force. What nobody knows is that long before Ryan became a cop, he pledged allegiance to a powerful Latino gang called Los Angelicos.
When Ryan’s best friend and police partner is senselessly killed by a notorious gang member, he teams up with longtime Task Force member Cassius Green (RZA), who has been at the forefront of the city’s war on organized crime. Despite his profession, Ryan is still beholden to the gang’s leader Javier Acosta (Cliff Curtis), the father figure Ryan has tried to make proud his entire life and the man who masterminded his entry into the police force.
Rey Gallegos, Jay Hernandez, Sung Kang, Inbar Lavi, Terry O’Quinn andShantel VanSanten also star. The series is from 20th Century Fox Television, Imagine Entertainment, Chris Morgan Productions and Skeeter Rosenbaum Productions.
Gang Related airs at 9 p.m. Thursdays starting May 22.
