Cannes: 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Star Zoe Saldana Talks Superhero Dreams, Directing Ambition (Video)
The actress speaks to THR about her desire to make films like those of Tony Scott and shares her Cannes survival secrets.
Zoe Saldana, who is in Cannes as an ambassador of the L'Oreal brand, has already rocked the red carpet in two glamorous looks -- the first night in a stunning white Victoria Beckham dress, and the second in a serene Jason Wu gown.
"It's beautiful," says Saldana of the experience. "To be here and to share the stage with these amazing ambassadors, women that I've grown up admiring … the 13-year-old in me has not grown up, and it's just this awe that I feel."
The busy actress will next be seen in Marvel and Disney's superhero film Guardians of the Galaxy, playing the green-hued superhero Gamora.
Had she ever wanted to play a superhero before? "Just for like a second when you're in the shower going, 'Wouldn't it be nice to fly and have a cape?' And then you forget it," she says. "And then all of a sudden they call you and say, 'Wouldn't it be nice to be green and in the Galaxy?' And you go, 'OK, I'll do it.' "
Saldana, who is already producing films through the production company she formed with her sisters, admits she definitely has ambitions to expand into another role: director.
"I'm a fan of Tony Scott, so it would be awesome if there was a female director who would do Man on Fire-type movies," she says when asked what kind of films she would like to make.
Saldana has been to Cannes several times and tells THR that she's been avoiding most guilty-pleasure food this year. But she does have a soft spot for a nice glass of rosé.
