Comedian and actor Patton Oswalt will emcee the ceremony, held in Santa Monica.

It's an uncharacteristically overcast day in Santa Monica on Saturday, where nominees will gather in a beachside tent for the 29th annual Independent Spirit Awards. The red carpet arrivals at the event will be live streamed below.

SPIRIT AWARDS: The Nominees List

Director Steve McQueen's drama 12 Years a Slave nabbed seven nominations to lead the awards field. Alexander Payne's Nebraska -- which features actor Bruce Dern in an Oscar nominated performance -- claimed six nominations.

All Is Lost, Frances Ha, Inside Llewyn Davis, Nebraska and 12 Years a Slave are vying for best feature at the awards.

Comedian and notable Twitter personality Patton Oswalt will emcee the ceremony. The actor shared with The Hollywood Reporter his outlook on hosting awards events.

"Part of my approach to hosting any show is that I'm actually genuinely happy to be there," Oswalt said. "As a film buff, I'm especially excited to be at the Spirits. So with anything you really, truly love, you're going to poke fun at it. But if I'm making fun of something, it's only because I truly love it."

The event will be broadcast on television on IFC at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Saturday. Red carpet arrivals:
