Ben & Jerry's has done it again — the ice cream brand unveiled two new flavors inspired by Saturday Night Live sketches, featuring characters played by Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell.
The flavors will be available exclusively at its Scoop Shops in the U.S. and Canada, and will be followed by two more SNL tribute flavors in honor of the show's 40th anniversary.
"Our fans have a great sense of humor and we share their affinity for the comic genius of Saturday Night Live," said Lisa Sholk, Ben & Jerry’s marketing manager. "We loved the challenge of creating ice cream personalities for those iconic sketches."
Drawing on Wiig's smirking, dancing, not-so-"sorry" classroom troublemaker, Gilly’s Catastrophic Crunch is described as "a combination of chocolate and sweet cream ice creams, with caramel clusters, fudge-covered almonds and a marshmallow swirl as frantic and mischievous as the flavor’s namesake." Wiig's Gilly even nabbed her own Christmas special:
Samberg and Parnell's Lazy Sunday sketches spotlight a major love of Magnolia cupcakes, identifying the flavor as "a vanilla cake batter ice cream base with chocolate and yellow cupcake pieces and a chocolate frosting swirl for the latest crazy concoction." Watch the two rap about their favorite dessert:
Ben & Jerry's previous SNL-inspired flavor, Schweddy Balls, was based on a skit starring Alec Baldwin and features vanilla ice cream "loaded with fudge-covered rum and malt balls." Other television-based flavors were inspired by 30 Rock and Anchorman.
