Video Tracker Vobile Acquires YouTube Analytics Startup Blayze


Content identification firm Vobile has acquired Blayze, a Santa Monica YouTube analytics startup, for an undisclosed price, the companies announced Thursday. 

Blayze co-founders Ben Smith and Bennett Neale will join Vobile as part of the deal. Blayze CEO Smith, an early YouTube employee, will become Vobile’s svp business development and spearhead the opening of the Santa Clara company’s Los Angeles office.

A source familiar with the deal says Vobile paid close to $10 million in cash and stock for the startup.

Vobile, founded in 2005, works with the major Hollywood studios and broadcast television networks on content rights management, helping them ID and often take down videos that are uploaded online. The firm, which has offices in China, Japan and Singapore, is looking to enter the YouTube space with the Blayze acquisition. 

“We are excited by the idea that Vobile has a vast technology expertise,” Smith tells THR.  “ They want to enter new markets and Los Angeles and online video is part of their vision. For us, it’s an exciting development.”

Blayze was founded in 2012 through Santa Monica tech accelerator MuckerLab. The analytics and content marketing startup raised an undisclosed seed round from MuckeLab, Social Leverage, Machinima co-founder Allen DeBevoise and others.

“The acquisition of Blayze gives us an entry into the YouTube content rights management market,” said Vobile CEO Yangbin Wang. “We are excited to bring a new approach that will be advantageous to content providers and video distribution websites leveraging our advanced technology and our years of experience as a trusted services provider to studios, networks and content rights holders worldwide.”
