Damien Chazelle directed and wrote the drama about an aspiring drummer who is berated by his art college professor.

"There are no two words in the English language more harmful than 'good job,' " says J.K. Simmons in the new Whiplash trailer, as he trains an ambitious Miles Teller to become the next great name in jazz.

Damien Chazelle directed and wrote the drama about an aspiring drummer who is berated by his art college professor. He had created a short based on the 2012 blacklist script, which premiered at Sundance in 2013, and won the short film jury award for best U.S. fiction.

In under a year, he shot the feature film, which was produced by Bold Films, Blumhouse Productions and Jason Reitman's Right of Way Films. The upcoming release is a film festival favorite.

Whiplash hits theaters Oct. 10.
