Vince Vaughn Attached to Star in Columbia Comedy 'The Politician' (Exclusive)
Also: Michael Dowse comes on board to direct
Vince Vaughn is attached to star in The Politician, a Columbia comedy that counts Seth Rogen among its producers.
At the same time, Michael Dowse, who helmed the current Daniel Radcliffe-Zoe Kazan romantic comedy What If, has signed on to direct the project.
Columbia picked up the script, which was on the 2013 Black List and is written by Matthew Bass and Theodore Bressman, in a bidding war late last year.
It tells of a politician in Washington, D.C., who is caught in a scandal with some hookers. The man and his underachieving accomplice go on the run from the FBI, U.S. Marshals and a gang of drug dealers.
Rogen is producing with his Point Grey partners Evan Goldberg and James Weaver. Veteran producer Mark Gordon is also producing.
Drew Simon and Michele Wolkoff will be overseeing for the Mark Gordon Company. Hannah Minghella and Andrea Giannetti are overseeing for Sony.
Vaughn recently wrapped Term Life, an action comedy directed by Peter Billingsley that will be released by Universal. The actor is also due to be part of the cast of the highly anticipated second season of HBO’s True Detective. He is repped by CAA and Jackoway Tyerman.
Dowse is a Canadian director who previously helmed the cult hockey comedy Goon, which starred Seann William Scott, Jay Baruchel and Liev Schreiber. His breakthrough feature was It’s All Gone Pete Tong, about a DJ who goes deaf. The movie won several awards at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival and the Gen Art Festival.
He is repped by UTA, Principato Young Entertainment and Loeb & Loeb.
