He will portray an '80s star in the Stephen Merchant film, based on WWE star Paige and her family of professional wrestlers.

Vince Vaughn is gearing up for Dwayne Johnson's wrestling drama Fighting With My Family.

The actor has joined the buzzy project, which is based on the true personal story of WWE star Paige and her family of professional wrestlers, as outlined in the Channel 4 British documentary The Wrestlers: Fighting With My Family.

Johnson on Tuesday hinted on Instagram that Vaughn will portray "a man who I know all too well and those of you who follow wrestling history know well too. The 80's wrestling star who squandered his money and opportunities because he didn't have the capacity to handle his fame. One bad decision after another, but these days he owns his past actions and does everything he can to give back to the wrestling business he loves."

Florence Pugh, Jack Lowden, Lena Headey and Nick Frost also are starring in the drama. MGM bought worldwide rights to the project out of Berlin for a notable $17.5 million.

Stephen Merchant (The Office, Hello Ladies) wrote and will direct and executive produce the film. Seven Bucks Productions’ Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia will executive produce, while Kevin Misher of Misher Films will produce alongside WWE Studios president Michael Luisi. WWE Studios will co-finance the film with Film4. Fighting With My Family is set to start principal photography this month in Los Angeles and London.

Vaughn's upcoming projects also include Roland Joffe's drama The Forgiven and two S. Craig Zahler films, police brutality movie Dragged Across Concrete and crime thriller Brawl in Cell Block 99. He is repped by WME.

Our @sevenbucksprod is excited to welcome Vince Vaughn to our #FightingWithMyFamily cast. He loved the script and sank his teeth into it embodying this character. He's playing a man who I know all too well and those of you who follow wrestling history know well too. The 80's wrestling star who squandered his money and opportunities because he didn't have the capacity to handle his fame. One bad decision after another, but these days he owns his past actions and does everything he can to give back to the wrestling business he loves. Vince has been a buddy of mine for years and I'm fired up to see what he brings to this role. I grew up in and love this wild, crazy and unpredictable world of pro wrestling. Our little passion project is coming together nicely. More casting news to come. Production starts tomorrow. Let's shoot! #FightingWithMyFamily #VinceVaughn #SevenBucksProds #MisherFilms #Film4 #WWEFilms #SquaredCircleDNA
