Virgin Mobile fest lets fans book bands
Five up-and-comers up for slotNEW YORK -- The Virgin Mobile Festival, a 40-act two-day event set for Aug. 9-10 in Baltimore, will for the second year in a row have fans vote for which of five up-and-coming bands should have a slot during the show.
The five bands are: Automatic Loveletter, Hollywood Undead, the Parlor Mob, the Virgins and We Are Scientists. The band's music, along with bios, will be available at VirginMobileFestival.com. The previous winner was rock act Aiden, who received nearly 420,000 text and online votes.
Kyocera Wireless and MySpace are sponsors of the contest. Fans can vote either via the Web site or text message. Virgin is backing the campaign with radio and online ads.
The bill for the festival includes Foo Fighters, Jack Johnson, Kanye West, Nine Inch Nails and Stone Temple Pilots, among others.
