Vivica A. Fox Celebrates 50th at Beverly Hills Birthday Bash
Celebrity friends and family came from near and far to celebrate Vivica A. Fox's milestone on Saturday at Philippe Beverly Hills. Star Jones, who has been friends with Fox for 25 years, described the actress as a loyal shepherd.
"She will always have your back, no matter what anybody ever says about you. I remember when Jimmy Kimmel made a nasty comment about me, and Viv was getting ready to throw down on national television because I'm her sister — that's just who she is. She is loyal to a fault," the actress told The Hollywood Reporter.
Fox also is celebrating the recent success of Syfy's Sharknado 2: The Second One, which scored record ratings with 3.9 million viewers for its premiere telecast on Wednesday night. Tara Reid, who played Fox's rival in the TV movie, also attended the event. "I've known Vivica for years. She's a friend of mine. And I'm so happy that she came on board with this film," she said.
Fox arrived in a curvaceous Donna Karen dress for the dinner portion of the evening. "I'm just so blessed when I see so many of my friends here. They're like family. I've worked with them, they are my colleagues and I'm just so happy they wanted to come out and celebrate with me," she told THR.
Celebrity stylist Phillip Bloch said he would not fly across the country for many people. "I've known Vivica, many men ago, " he said laughing. "Many men, many movies and many many dresses ago. We've been friends probably for 17 or 18 years. We've traveled the world together, been many places. I really love her," he said.
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville said she met Vivica just a year ago while working on a show they cannot disclose just yet. "She's got this nurturing thing about her. She's always telling me, 'You need to try different hairdos and different makeup artists and wear different shoes.' She's always put together. I just don't have the energy for it, but I aspire to be that put together," she revealed.
Other celebrities in attendance included actresses Vanessa Bell Calloway and Jennifer Tilly, Shaun Robinson, Brandy Norwood, Tatyana Ali, Duane Martin, Michael Jai White, Salli Richardson and husband Dondre Whitfield.
Following dinner, the affair turned into a full-fledged afterparty with a DJ and a performance by actress-singer Tisha Campbell-Martin. Friend and longtime publicist B.J. Coleman said the party took one year to plan. "There was no theme. We just wanted this to be fabulous," he said.
