Vodafone, Bharti prevail in 3G auction
Licenses worth over $3.5 billion in revenue for IndiaMUMBAI -- Vodafone, Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular were among winners for third-generation mobile spectrum licenses in India, television channels reported on Wednesday.
Nine mobile operators, including Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications and Vodafone's Indian unit, were participating in the auction.
The auction for nationwide 3G mobile spectrum licenses in India ended on the 34th day, a source told Reuters.
As of Tuesday, 180 rounds of bidding had been completed, the Department of Telecommunications said on its Web site with bids for one set of nationwide 3G mobile spectrum license reaching 165.31 billion rupees ($3.63 billion).
