The Tony winner stars as a pregnant, unhappily married diner server who bakes extraordinary pies in the new musical adapted from the 2007 indie film with Keri Russell.

Jessie Mueller is all smiles and slices in The Hollywood Reporter's first look at the poster for Waitress on Broadway.

In the key art for the new musical, the lead actress — a 2014 Tony winner for Beautiful: The Carole King Musical — is shown as Jenna in her blue diner uniform and apron, looking right at home amid eggs, flour and a freshly baked pie. What the picture doesn't show is that Jenna's hoping to flee her abusive husband while preparing to welcome her own bun in the oven.

Directed by Diane Paulus, the new production marks the musical-theater debut of Sara Bareilles as a composer; it features a book by screenwriter Jessie Nelson and an ensemble cast that also includes Eric Anderson, Christopher Fitzgerald, Drew Gehling, Kimiko Glenn, Dakin Matthews and Keala Settle. The new production begins previews March 25, 2016, before its April 24 opening at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.

The musical is based on the 2007 Fox Searchlight indie hit of the same name, which grossed north of $19 million domestically. Written and directed by Adrienne Shelly, the film starred Keri Russell as a pregnant, unhappily married diner waitress in the Deep South who makes extraordinary pies. She hopes that the prize money from a baking contest may provide her with the means to start a new life.

"Pies represent a way out for our complicated and conflicted lead character, Jenna. Baking floods her with memories of being in the kitchen with her mother and also provides a means of escape from her current life. Her pies bring her love, friendship, companionship," said producer Barry Weissler of the poster. "We feel the image captures the intimacy of Jenna in her kitchen and the happiness she ultimately finds for herself, while the audience will have to take the journey with her to see how she gets there."

Waitress on Broadway is produced by Barry and Fran Weissler and Norton and Elayne Herrick.
