SHANGHAI -- Chinese director Wang Chao, best known for his Cannes winner "Luxury Car," is able to begin shooting his next film after raising money at the 11th Shanghai International Film Festival, producers said Friday.
Wang's "Start Over" tells the story of a doctor pondering forgiveness of his cheating wife. It is the first project in development to raise funds in the Shanghai festival's Pitch and Catch section this year.
Cindy Lin, managing director of Beijing-based China Infotainment, said she had raised 4 million yuan ($570,000) from Bloom International Media, also of Beijing.
In May, Lin raised 3.5 million yuan ($500,000) for "Start Over" from French investor TF1 Group at Cannes.
"The TF1 investment helps domestic investors to be more confident that the film will be successful," Lin said.
"Start Over" is set to begin shooting in Hangzhou, south of Shanghai, in July. "Luxury Car" won the prize in Un Certain Regard section at Cannes in 2006.
