Warner Bros. Television Launches Directors' Workshop

 

Calling all aspiring television directors.

Warner Bros. Television announced today the launch of its first-ever Directors’ Workshop.

The new initiative joins the studio's long-running Writers’ Workshop and Fresh Ink Initiative as means of discovering creative talent.

The 12-week program, taught by director and author Bethany Rooney and other industry professional guest speakers, is designed to provide up-and-coming directors with the chance to influence the future of television.

With active television series sets as the learning environment and successful TV helmers, cinematographers and showrunners as instructors, the goal of the workshop is to prepare directors for a successful career in television. It will run from May 31–Aug. 23, with weekly meetings each Saturday on the Warner Bros. Studios lot in Burbank, Calif.

Each of the weekly sessions will focus on a new directorial skill, from pre-production to shooting to post-production. Participants may also opt to attend cinematography workshops, acting classes and even shadow directors on an episode of a current Warner Bros.'s show.

Previous Writers’ Workshop alumni include Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos, The Wolf of Wall Street), Marc Cherry (Desperate Housewives), Greg Garcia (My Name Is Earl) and Felicia Henderson (Soul Food).

Warner Bros. is currently accepting applications for the inaugural 2014 session. The most competitive candidates will have a portfolio of features, music videos or national commercials to submit.
