Warner nabs stars for ShoWest
EmptyWarner Bros. plans to do a celebrity-studded promotional event at ShoWest 2008, harking back to days of yore in assembled star power.
In keeping with a more recent trend at the exhibition confab, Warners' "The Big Picture '08" presentation will not be a splashy luncheon but will be held in a theater in Las Vegas' Paris hotel at 2:45 p.m. March 13, the closing day of the show. ShoWest opens March 10 at the Paris and Bally's hotels.
Warners domestic distribution president Dan Fellman said the presentation -- similar to one staged by the studio two years ago at ShoWest -- will be focused primarily on Warners' all-important summer slate. Its releases this swimsuit season include two huge tentpole pics: Batman sequel "The Dark Knight" on July 18 and the Steve Carell comedy "Get Smart" on June 20.
"Speed Racer," bowing May 9, represents yet another big title in the studio's summertime basket.
"From the titles to the talent behind them, this is one of the most exciting film lineups we've seen for any season, with a wide range of movies that offer something for everyone," Fellman said. "We wanted to showcase this special slate with our partners in the distribution community, who we are sure will share our excitement about what is coming from Warner Bros. this summer."
Coming off its biggest boxoffice year in its 85-year history, the studio will show clips from those releases and also from dramatic sequel "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" and the Lucasfilm-animated "Star Wars: The Clone Wars."
Top talent expected to attend the Warners event includes actors Christian Bale, Carell, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, Emile Hirsch and Christina Ricci and directors George Lucas, Christopher Nolan and Peter Segal.
ShoWest is produced by the Film Group at Nielsen Business Media, which includes The Hollywood Reporter.
