THR's chief television critic, Tim Goodman, moderates a discussion with the comedian the night before his stand-up tour hits Madison Square Garden.

The night before his stand-up tour Humanity hits Madison Square Garden, Ricky Gervais is sitting down with The Hollywood Reporter's chief television critic, Tim Goodman, as part of THR's TV Talks series.

Gervais is currently hitting the road with Humanity, his first stand-up tour in seven years. "I chose the best and worst year to return to stand-up. It’s great in the sense that there’s lots of shit for me to rant about, but it’s bad in the sense that my ‘schtick’ has always been playing the arrogant, misinformed know-it-all who says the wrong thing. It’s worked well for me. But now I worry half the room agrees with those things without seeing the irony. It’s a tricky one," he stated when announcing the tour. "Still ... Humanity is turning out to be my best stand-up yet. I think it’s because truth is so important now."

The master of social satire also recently debuted the film David Brent: Life on the Road on Netflix. Written and directed by Gervais, the title finds his beloved, epically delusional character from BBC's The Office chasing rock ’n’ roll stardom with his band, Foregone Conclusion. It's the first time in over a decade that Gervais has played Brent onscreen.

The event kicks off Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. ET from New York City's 92nd Street Y. Watch the live stream below.
