NEW YORK - The Weather Channel Companies have appointed Chris Walters as COO.
He joins the company from Bloomberg L.P. where he was the COO of the Bloomberg Industry Verticals Group, and will be based at the company's headquarters in Atlanta.
In the new Weather Channel role, Walters will oversee the company's technology, finance, legal and human resources teams, reporting to recently named chairman and CEO David Kenny.
The consortium that owns the Weather Channel Companies includes NBCUniversal and private equity firms Bain Capital and The Blackstone Group.
“Chris is a strategist with the vision and understanding of the media and digital industries and a track record in operating innovative media and technology businesses," said Kenny. "He will focus on building the operational infrastructure required to scale our business globally.”
“The Weather Channel has extraordinary growth potential in television, online and mobile, around the world," said Walters. “The company’s incredible global brand strength, digital assets, and unparalleled reach across platforms are a solid foundation to continue to build upon in the U.S. and international markets."
At Bloomberg, Walters worked on the launch of Bloomberg Government in 2011. He joined Bloomberg in 2008 as head of news and multimedia strategy, focusing on the firm's growth and strategic direction.
Previously, Walters was a partner at McKinsey & Co., advising clients, including TWCC's investors.
