The 25 Most Powerful Stylists in Hollywood
UPDATED: A-list clients, red-carpet hits (and misses) and profitable gigs such as TV hosting, book deals, commercials all factor in to who makes the list and how high they rank in the current issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.
Agents, managers and publicists don't hold all the power when it comes to A-list clients. Hollywood's red-carpet stylists have the potential to make or break an actress' career based on their dress decisions. Michelle Williams' not-so-whimsical Valentino daisies at the Globes were met with a deafening outcry of "Who put her in that?!" Stylist Leith Clark (No. 11), who'd worked with Williams all season, was replaced by Elizabeth Stewart (No. 8), who knew she had to help redeem Williams when she stepped out on Oscar night --and got her a flawless Chanel couture column that did the job. Stylists also have the ability to set fashion trends (No. 1 stylist Rachel Zoe created the "boho chic" craze) and the clout to decide which designers and jewelers get mass exposure. The most important thing when styling is to master the balance of what's pleasing to TV viewers while providing a look that's forward-thinking enough for fashion critics. That's what landed these 25 stylists on THR's first-ever Most Powerful Stylists list.

1. Rachel Zoe
An A-list client roster, the Bravo reality show, multiple designing and fashion consulting deals and a best-selling book make Zoe the most powerful stylist in Hollywood.
2. Kate Young
The NYC-based stylist is responsible for Natalie Portman's acclaimed looks -- it's challenging enough to turn out multiple stunning styles for the It girl but even more impressive when it's maternity chic. Runway designers Viktor & Rolf, Rodarte and Azzaro all created custom styles for the Oscar winner. Young, who started her career at Vogue, also works with R&B singer Alicia Keys.
3. Petra Flannery
Flannery's best-dressed clients include Emma Stone (winning looks: Calvin Klein at the Globes and Chanel at Vanity Fair's fete), Mila Kunis (winning looks: lavender Elie Saab at the Oscars and Alexander McQueen at the SAGs) and Zoe Saldana. Before making Steinfeld a red-carpet one-to-watch, Flannery created Saldana's elegant, avant garde style during last year's Avatar awards campaign, including the daring lavender Givenchy Haute Couture she wore on Oscar Night 2010.
4. Jen Rade
The dazzling emerald Atelier Versace dress that Rade put longtime client Angelina Jolie in at this year's Globes stole the show. Rade also dresses Pink, Cher and The Office's Jenna Fischer, plus she has such commercial styling gigs as Target and Apple's iPod.
5. Anna Bingemann
From Emmys to Globes, Claire Danes had her most spectacular awards season ever thanks to the Armani Prive, hot-hued Calvin Klein and Louis Vuitton dresses that Bingemann handpicked for her. Bingemann also works with Gwyneth Paltrow, Naomi Watts and Tina Fey. She is married to actor-director Griffin Dunne.
