Weinstein Company Acquires Remake Rights to Italian Comedy 'Perfect Strangers'
Gianni Nunnari ('The Departed,' '300') will produce for Weinstein.
The Weinstein Company has acquired the remake rights to Italian comedy Perfetti Sconosciuti (Perfect Strangers)
The feature takes place over a dinner party with seven lifelong friends — three couples and one divorcée — all of whom decide to test how well they know each other by putting their phones on the table and revealing every text message or phone call received during the evening. Hilarity and disaster expectantly ensue.
Paolo Genovese directed the Italian-language original from a script he wrote with Rolando Ravello, Paolo Costella, Filippo Bologna and Paola Mammini. Medusa Film produced the project.
Perfetti Sconosciuti screened at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival where it won the Best Screenplay prize in the International Narrative Competition section.
Gianni Nunnari (The Departed, Shutter Island) will produce the remake for TWC, with plans to bring on more producers. Fabrizio Lombardo, who brought the project to the studio, and Rick Yorn will exec produce.
The deal was negotiated by David Glasser and Sarah Sobel on behalf of TWC, with Antonio Bernardini and Faruk Alatan negotiating for Medusa.
