The Weinstein Company Pulls Nicole Kidman's 'Grace of Monaco' from Release Calendar
Director Olivier Dahan has been at odds with Weinstein over suggested changes to the biopic.
The Weinstein Co. has taken Grace of Monaco off the calendar less than two months before the biopic was supposed to hit theaters on March 14. As of now, there is no new release date for the movie, starring Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly, the legendary Hollywood star-turned-princess.
The movie has yet to be delivered to Harvey Weinstein's company, making it difficult to begin generating final marketing materials, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
Grace of Monaco was originally set to open in late November 2013, but the Weinstein Co. pushed back the release to March, saying it wouldn't be ready in time.
French director Olivier Dahan presented a difference version of events, and publicly lashed out at Weinstein for wanting to change the film. "It's right to struggle, but when you confront an American distributor like Weinstein, not to name names, there is not much you can do," Olivier told a French newspaper at the time. "There are two versions of the film for now: mine and his … which I find catastrophic."
Insiders say Weinstein gave Dahan notes, but that Weinstein has no creative control over the project and cannot make cuts to the film.
Dahan's representatives couldn't be immediately reached for comment.
Dahan, whose previous credits include La Vie En Rose, directed Grace of Monaco from a script by Arash Amel. Tim Roth, Paz Vega, Parker Posey, Frank Langella and Derek Jacobi also star.
The Weinstein Co. isn't giving up the March 14 date altogether, and will instead release British dramedy One Chance on that weekend.
