Weinstein Co. President of Publicity Dani Weinstein to Exit
The veteran publicist has worked at TWC and predecessor Miramax since 1999.
In a move widely expected, Dani Weinstein is leaving her president of publicity post at The Weinstein Co. at the end of the month.
The veteran publicist, who is no relation to brothers Bob and Harvey Weinstein, has worked at TWC and predecessor Miramax since 1999. (She left to join ID PR in 2010 and returned to TWC in 2012.) Weinstein's departure has been expected for some months, as the company significantly cut its film slate in the past year and has increasingly focused on TV.
Weinstein is a well-respected executive in the awards-season film space, having worked on the campaigns for such films as Oscar best picture winners The King's Speech and The Artist. At TWC, she wore many hats, and over the past 18 months was leaned on increasingly to work in the capacity of a marketing executive. (The company lost its marketing head Stephen Bruno in October 2014 and has yet to replace him.)
Though stripped down, TWC's publicity team still includes Brad Thompson, who works closely with Harvey Weinstein on the company's film news. TWC's remaining 2016 film slate includes the boxing drama Hands of Stone (Aug. 26); awards-season hopeful Lion, starring Rooney Mara and Dev Patel (Nov. 25); and the Matthew McConaughey vehicle Gold (Christmas Day).
