Toronto: Werner Herzog's 'Salt and Fire' Nabbed by XLrator Media for U.S.
The acquisition comes before the North American bow of the German auteur's eco-thriller, and its spring 2017 theatrical release.
XLrator Media has picked up the U.S. rights to Werner Herzog eco-thriller Salt and Fire from CAA ahead of its North American premiere at the Toronto Film Festival.
The German auteur's volcano disaster film stars Michael Shannon, Gael Garcia Bernal and Veronica Ferres, and debuted at the Shanghai International Film Festival. XLrator plans a commercial theatrical release in spring 2017.
Salt and Fire follows a scientist and a corporate CEO who are forced to team up despite their ideological differences when a remote South American supervolcano begins to erupt. The film was produced by Herzog, Nina Maag, Michael Benaroya and Pablo Cruz.
"In a career spanning six decades, Werner Herzog has dazzled and challenged audiences with his unique cinematic vision. We're honored to bring audiences his thought-provoking and very timely environmental thriller with the remarkable cast of Michael Shannon, Gael Garcia Bernal and Veronica Ferres," XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon said in a statement on Thursday.
The deal was negotiated by XLrator Media's Gordon and Lea Flome, with CAA on behalf of the filmmakers.
