'What to Expect' Stars Anna Kendrick, Chace Crawford Talk 'Excruciating' Facial Hair and Chemistry (Video)
The actors play rival food truck owners in Lionsgate's comedy.
In What to Expect When You’re Expecting, Anna Kendrick and Chace Crawford play rival food truck owners whose one-night stand leads to a bun in the oven. While the two characters have known each other since high school, they aren’t dating and need to figure out where to go from there.
The Lionsgate comedy, opening in theaters May 18, centers around five expectant couples, and also stars Cameron Diaz, Elizabeth Banks, Jennifer Lopez and Brooklyn Decker.
Kendrick and Crawford did not know each other before shooting the comedy, but soon learned plenty about each other. They told The Hollywood Reporter that they spent a lot of time on set bonding over a major piece on international news: the News of the World phone-hacking scandal.
Kendrick, who starred in 2009’s Up in the Air with George Clooney, got to know Gossip Girl star Crawford so well that she even had an issue with him as a romantic interest: “Sandpaper scruff.”
FILM REVIEW: What to Expect When You’re Expecting
“I don’t know how any woman has survived making out with him more than once,” she told THR, adding that she “looked like a character from a horror film” after their scenes together.
“It’s a compliment of sorts,” she added. “He’s so masculine that his little stubble was excruciating.”
But other than the razorblade-like facial hair issues, Crawford said they got along very well on set.
“Just right away from the chemistry, we realized it was very easy to get along and do scenes,” he told THR. “She’s obviously got a great sense of humor.”
