Wheelies big and small on slate at Jetix
EmptyDisney's Jetix is revving up its slate with two more live-action projects, handing out pilot orders to the skateboarding-centric "Mongoose & Luther" and the monster truck-themed "Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!"
Jetix, which targets kids 6-11, is a block of high-energy programming that airs seven days a week on Toon Disney in the U.S. but also can be seen around the world. It has been ramping up its slate in recent months: The two new green lights come on the heels of pilot orders for "Aaron Stone" (HR 9/24) and "Sky Runners" (HR 10/16).
Fred Savage has signed on to direct "Mongoose," a half-hour, single-camera, action-adventure-comedy project about two best friends who have their sights set on becoming the world's greatest skateboarders. The project was created by writer/executive producers Matt Dearborn and Tom Burkhard, both of whom worked on Disney Channel's "Even Stevens," which Dearborn created. Greg Hampson (Disney Channel's "Wizards of Waverly Place") is producing.
It's not Savage's first association with Disney or with Dearborn and Burkhard. He directed episodes of "Even Stevens" as well as Disney Channel's "Wizards of Waverly Place," "Hannah Montana," "That's So Raven" and "Phil of the Future."
"Sunday!" revolves around two cousins, Frank and Jess, who couldn't be more different. When Frank comes to live with Jess in his small town of Rust River, Mo., the two end up bonding over their love for racing monster trucks.
"Sunday!" was written by its creator/showrunners Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, who worked together on MTV's "Celebrity Deathmatch." Troy Miller, whose credits include directing and producing episodes of HBO's "Flight of the Conchords" and the film "Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd," is helming the "Sunday!" pilot and will serve as executive producer.
Casting on both projects is under way.
