Brown, 43, was performing a show at the Landers Center in Southaven as part of the New Edition reunion tour.
He took a moment onstage to remember his wife of 15 years.
“First and foremost, I want to tell you that I love you all for being here,” Brown said to the crowd. “Second, I would like to say, 'I love you, Whitney.' ”

He added, “The hardest thing for me to do is to come on this stage." But then Brown said that his loyal fans had some out to see him and "after 25-and-some years, you're still here," so he owed it to them to perform.
During an intermission, the venue played Houston’s breakthrough 1985 hit, “You Give Good Love.”
Brown couldn’t stay composed through the end of the show. He became visibly more upset later, wiping his face with his vest. When the group started up a ballad, he joined in but then had to stop. He waved to the crowd and walked off stage. The concert ended soon after.

Houston died in a room at the Beverly Hilton on Saturday. The six-time Grammy winner was 48.
