William and Kate To Meet Bollywood Stars on First India Visit
The royal couple's itinerary includes a fundraiser in Mumbai with actors Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan also on the guest list.
Bollywood and British royalty will meet and mingle during the first visit by Prince William and Kate Middleton to India.
The royal couple's tour, which runs April 10-16, kicks off in Mumbai with a charity dinner that, according to an official statement, will include "some well-known names from Bollywood."
Local media reports indicate Indian A-listers including actress and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and actor Shah Rukh Khan, will be among the VIP attendees.
“The event will include red-carpet arrivals, dance and musical performances, and of course fashion,” the statement added.
The evening, hosted by the British High Commission in partnership with the British Asian Trust, founded by William's father, Prince Charles, will raise funds for three charities.
During their visit, the royals will stay at the Taj Palace Hotel, scene of the November 2008 terrorist attacks in which 166 people were killed and more than 300 wounded. They are scheduled to lay a wreath at a memorial inside the hotel and meet staff members who helped protect guests during the attack.
On April 11, the royals will move on to the Indian capital New Delhi for a party at the residence of the British High Commissioner to mark the 90th birthday of William's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen's actual birthday is April 21, but celebrations of her majesty's Nonagintennial will be held throughout April, May and June.
The royals will round off their Indian trip with a visit to the iconic Taj Mahal monument in Agra in central India.
