William Shatner Releases 'Shatoetry' iPhone App
He is the latest celebrity to join the phone app game.
William Shatner is joining the app game.
With Shatoetry, a spoken word iPhone app, users can choose from a library of pre-recorded words by the Star Trek alum to create "Shatisms."
“People all over the world have been listening to my voice for so long, but they’ve only ever heard what I wanted to say,” said Shatner in a statement. “I wanted to give people a means to express their thoughts and ideas, using my voice. It’s a fun, creative app that I am certain people will enjoy.”
Adds Shatoetry co-creator Lev Chapelsky from Blindlight Apps: "This is one of the first apps to extend a celebrity brand in such a meaningful, interactive way. It makes the celebrity’s creativity truly interactive for the app user.”
To create the Shatisms with multiple people, users of the app -- which Shatner calls "Shatoetists" -- use the co-op mode and can collaborate efforts on the web. Poetry and haiku can also be created using the app for more advanced users. Additional updates are in the works.
Shatner is the latest celebrity to get in on the game; in September, comedian Ricky Gervais released an iPhone app called Just Sayin'.
