Winter Storm Jonas Forces Broadway Performance Cancellations on Saturday
The day's matinee and evening performances were suspended due to the ban on travel in New York.
Even the Great White Way can't brave Jonas.
The Broadway League announced that all Broadway matinee and evening performances on Saturday, Jan. 23, will be canceled due to the winter storm and the resulting ban on travel in New York and suspension of public transportation by government authorities.
Performances are expected to resume on Sunday.
"Now that the snowstorm has arrived, I’d like to reiterate that the safety and security of theatergoers and employees is everyone's primary concern," Charlotte St. Martin, president of The Broadway League, said in a statement. "We expect normal operations to resume for tomorrow’s Sunday matinees."
In addition to Broadway shows, the storm has prompted hundreds of East Coast movie theaters to send their employees home and temporarily suspend operation, including those in New York City, Philadelphia and New Jersey. All told, box-office revenue this weekend could be down more than 15 percent because of the massive storm.
