Internationally renowned DJ and radio host Pete Tong has banded with WMA to form William Morris Electronic, a venture into the electronic music market.

As part of the operation, Joel Zimmerman, whose company Division One made a name for itself booking acts in the electronic market, has joined WMA to head WME.

WME and Tong will collaborate in signing, developing and representing electronic artists as well as creating and programming electronic music properties. WME will consist of music agents across WMA's offices, led by Tong's agent David Levy in the London office, Zimmerman and Sam Kirby in the New York office and Marc Geiger in the Beverly Hills office.

"The dance community experienced the fundamental changes in the music business before any other genre, and I believe we are ahead of the game in terms of developing sound strategies for the future," Tong said. "WME will be at the core of that."

Tong first gained recognition as the host of the popular BBC Radio 1 show featuring dance and electronica and then segued into DJ work, performing worldwide.

In his move, Zimmerman brings with him a roster of electronic artists including Steve Lawler, James Zabiela, Booka Shade, Erol Alkan, Deadmau5, M.A.N.D.Y. and Dieselboy, among others. (partialdiff)
