Woody Allen takes turn as opera director
Allen, William Friedkin helming 'Il Trittico'
Woody Allen makes his debut as an opera director when he joins William Friedkin in helming Puccini's "Il Trittico," a trio of one-act operas, for the Los Angeles Opera. Allen will direct "Gianni Schicchi," while Friedkin will handle "Il Tabarro" and "Suor Angelica." Tony-winning production designer Santo Loquasto, who has worked on more than 20 Allen films, will design the operas. Music director James Conlon will conduct for the six performances from Sept. 6-26.
