'X Factor' UK Bad-Boy Frankie Cocozza Booted Off The Show
The baby-faced, 18-year-old was overheard by production staff boasting of cocaine-fuelled sex sessions.
LONDON -- He was one of the undoubted characters in what some critics have said is a lackluster series of X FactorUK. But cocksure singer Frankie Cocozza, whose rock-star themed partying has made more headlines than his performances, has been booted off the show after boasting about sex romps and drug use.
Cocozza, who was mentored by Take That star Gary Barlow, has left the X-Factor show and is expected to be replaced by Johnny Robinson, the contestant who was voted out in the previous round.
Cocozza was overheard by show producers boasting about alleged cocaine use and the decision to axe him was made by ITV bosses.
"Frankie is leaving the show after breaking competition rules. He is going to take some time out before continuing his career as a singer," spokeswoman for the show said."
Barlow said he was "hugely disappointed" that Cocozzi had blown his chances on the show.
The wannabe had earlier been admonished by Barlow and fellow judge Kelly Rowland for failing to properly prepare for his performances.
Insiders on the show said that he had had been out partying before the results show on Sunday and had been "out of his face" during the show.
Tales of his antics, including boasts of sex with a contestant from a rival reality show and taking a succession of girls back to the X Factor house, have filled the tabloids, dismaying producers concerned by the impression he would have on young fans of the show.
He also earned criticism from indie rock band Primal Scream for performing their hit "Get Your Rocks Off" without his permission.
In a statement Cocozza apologized to his fans and the show's producers.
"My life during the show has gone out of control and my behavior off-stage has overstepped the rules of the competition. I no longer deserve my place in the show.
Although it has fallen behind the BBC's Strictly Come Dancingin recent weeks, X Factor stormed back this week with more than 12 million viewers on Saturday night.
