Google's online video channel partners with veteran Bollywood banner Yash Raj Films.
NEW DELHI -- YouTube India has launched an exclusive movie channel that will be available only in India, offering a premium blockbuster every month for free.
Sponsored by Intel, YouTube Box Office has partnered with veteran Bollywood banner Yash Raj Films to kick-start the initiative with last year's romcom hit Band Baaja Baaraat starring Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma.
YouTube Box Office will also feature other popular movies from the YouTube catalog that includes over 1,500 titles.
“With over 48 hours of content being uploaded on YouTube every minute, this is our attempt to curate premium and exclusive content which our users enjoy. This initiative also opens up a new window of opportunities for marketers to utilize the platform and engage the YouTube community,” said YouTube Japan-APAC director, content partnerships, Gautam Anand.
“Apart from offering tremendous reach, evolved digital platforms like YouTube also enable the monetization aspect through advertising revenues in an unobtrusive manner, while offering a great online viewing experience to the users. We are sure this project will throw up interesting insights and consumption patterns of the digital-friendly audience,” said Yash Raj Films general manager – digital and new media, Anand Gurnani.
In a first of its kind initiative in 2009, YouTube premiered a new Bollywood film, Striker - only for users outside India - day and date with its theatrical release.
Recently, YouTube India streamed box office hit Dabangg for users in India that received 1.3 million channel views.
