Zac Efron Tells 'Today': THR Interview Was 'A Weight Off My Chest' (Video)
The "Neighbors" star says that he was able to channel his rough year into his work on the Universal comedy as co-star Dave Franco says Efron's role in the film should be a breakthrough.
Zac Efron recently opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about his battle with addiction, but the actor said it wasn't tough for him to discuss the recent struggles that landed him in rehab.
"It was a weight off my chest I think. It was great," the Neighbors star said of the interview on Monday's Today.

Efron added that he was able to channel his issues into his work on the film.
"It was a rough year, and, it's kind of funny, Neighbors is such a great icing on the cake for all of this," he said. "I was able to kind of channel all of that and put it back into this movie. And I feel great, really blessed to be here working with this group of guys, and I don't know, it couldn't be better right now. I'm really excited."
Efron's Neighbors co-star Dave Franco, who joined him for the interview, said he's excited for Efron and what the movie could do for his career.
"I'm really excited for Zac because I think a lot of people have this preconception of who he is, and once you see this movie, I think his teenybopper image is going to be completely shattered, and all these new projects that wouldn't have come to him otherwise are just going to flood toward him," Franco said.

Efron also echoed his comments to THR about wanting to work with Seth Rogen being the primary reason he wanted to do Neighbors.
"We'd do anything to work with Seth," Efron said of himself and Franco. "He's a hero in my eyes. Both us look up to him so much. So it wasn't about money in any way, we just really wanted to work with him."
