Zach Galifianakis Teaming Up With Jon Hamm for 'Keeping Up With the Joneses' (Exclusive)
Greg Mottola is attached to direct the comedy.
Just days after becoming a viral sensation with his interview with President Obama, Zach Galifianakis has a new film project.
Fox 2000 has picked up Keeping Up With the Joneses, a comedy package that has Galifianakis and Jon Hamm attached to star.
Greg Mottola, the helmer behind such comedies as Superbad and Paul, is attached to direct the project, which is being produced by Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald.
Keeping Up With the Joneses has been in development by Parkes and MacDonald for a couple of years, with Galifianakis and Hamm becoming involved only a month ago. Mottola has closed his deal while Galifianakis and Hamm are still negotiating theirs.
The script follows a type-A couple in an idyllic suburban neighborhood who discover that their new, seemingly perfect neighbors are undercover agents. Mike LeSieur wrote the script.
Galifianakis most recently starred in The Campaign and The Hangover Part III. He makes a cameo in Muppets Most Wanted and is part of the ensemble of Birdman. Between Two Ferns with Obama plugging healthcare.gov has so far generated more than 15 million views. Galifianakis is repped by CAA, Brillstein Entertainment and Morris Young.
Besides Mad Men, Hamm will next be seen in Disney's Million Dollar Arm. He's repped by CAA, Forward Entertainment and Sloane Offer.
Mottola's previous work includes Adventureland and Superbad. He's repped by UTA.
LeSieur is repped by CAA, Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment, and attorney Jeff Frankel.
