Will Ferrell, Zach Galifianakis Launch 'Campaign' Tour in Los Angeles
The actors, promoting their Jay Roach-helmed comedy, discussed faux political agendas at the Grove.
It's an election year, and Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis have just kicked off a campaign of their own.
Not a run for the White House but a promotion for their upcoming comedy The Campaign, the actors' whistle-stop tour made its first stop at Los Angeles' the Grove Tuesday morning. Both men were in character as hapless North Carolina political rivals.
"Thank you for coming out to the historic Grove," joked Ferrell. "Where even the homeless people are fake," added Galifianakis.

At podiums bearing their characters' names and images, the comedians hawked their fake political ambitions. Ferrell, who turned 45 yesterday, claimed that if he won, “I would do exactly what the Congresspeople are doing right now -- nothing. I'd just hang out in Washington, go to great restaurants." When asked how they would court the Latino vote, Galifianakis offered, “We were at Carlos Santana's house last night.”
In Meet the Parents director Jay Roach’s comedy, Ferrell’s Cam Brady has always had the luxury of running for Congress unopposed, until he makes a public gaffe and finds a challenger in Galifianakis’ dweeby Marty Huggins. The new rivals kiss (and punch) babies, shoot crossbows, get bitten by snakes – just standard campaign trail scuffles.

Next on their 11-city tour, Ferrell and Galifianakis will touch down in St. Louis Tuesday. They’ll hit Dallas/Ft. Worth and Chicago on Wednesday, then another stop in Chicago and on to Seattle on Thursday, then San Francisco on Friday. Then they kick off the second leg in Boston and Toronto on July 30 and, fittingly, will end with stops in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. on July 31.
Special events along the way include Ferrell and Galifianakis throwing out two first pitches at a Chicago Cubs game and reenacting the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia.
The Campaign will be released August 10.
