Zee TV's Subhash Chandra to Receive Emmy Honor
The media mogul is the first Indian to receive the International Emmy Directorate Award.
NEW DELHI -- Leading Indian broadcasting group Zee TV founder Subhash Chandra, who also runs the Essel Group, will receive the 2011 International Emmy Directorate Award. Chandra will make history as the first ever Directorate Award recipient from India, at The International Emmy Awards Gala, in New York, on November 21.
“Subhash Chandra is a one of a kind visionary -- a self-made entrepreneur who made his mark on the Indian television industry by launching the first privately-owned channel in India,” said International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences President and CEO Bruce Paisner. “We look forward to presenting him with our 2011 International Emmy Directorate Award as Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited prepares to celebrate its 20th anniversary, in 2012.”
Acknowledging the award, Chandra said, “I thank the Academy for bestowing this honor on me. Our belief has always been to explore and capitalize on opportunities that arise in form of new businesses. Launched in 1992 by Chandra, ZEEL is a pioneer of the television entertainment industry in India with 500 million viewers across 167 countries and a library of over 80,000 hours of television and 3,000 films.
ZEEL is part of Chandra’s Essel Group conglomerate which has interests in media, packaging, entertainment, technology-enabled services, infrastructure, development and education.
