COLOGNE, Germany -- Zhang Yimou's Under The Hawthorn Tree, a tale of young romance set during China's culture revolution, will have its European premiere in the Berlin Film Festival's Generation sidebar.

The Chinese director was in Berlin competition last year with A Woman, A Gun and a Noodle Shop and has been a regular at the German fest, winning Berlin's Golden Bear in 1987 for Red Sorghum and taking the Alfred Bauer prize in 2002 for Hero.

Among the other titles picked for the 2011 Generation lineup include Andy DeEmmony's West Is West, the sequel to 1999 Manchester cross-culture comedy East is East; Australian super-hero tale Griff the Invisible starring True Blood's Ryan Kwanten and Matthew Gordon's directorial debut The Dynamiter.

Generation director Maryanne Redpath will complete her selections in early January.

The 2011 Berlin International Film Festival runs Feb. 10-20.
