Znaimer to take over VisionTV

His ZoomerMedia will also run ONE channel, two local stations

TORONTO -- Canadian TV pioneer Moses Znaimer is back in the broadcast business after the country's TV watchdog on Tuesday approved his CAN$29 million ($28.5 million) takeover of the multifaith cable channel VisionTV.

Znaimer and his ZoomerMedia group also got the go ahead to own and run rival cable channel ONE: The Body, Mind and Spirit Channel, and two western Canadian over-the-air local TV stations: CHNU-TV in British Columbia and CIIT-TV in Winnipeg.

Znaimer co-founded Toronto TV station Citytv in the 1970s and pioneered the operation of hip, local TV stations while part of the Chum Limited media group before it was carved up in 2006 and 2007 by rival broadcasters CTVglobemedia and Rogers Communications.
