Zoe Saldana Says Stylist Unleashed Her Inner Fashion 'Monster' (Video)
The actress tells THR her directors now know to credit Petra Flannery when she stuns on the red carpet.
Zoe Saldana says stylist Petra Flannery created a monster by giving her a fashion education.
"She would tell me about designers and I would go, 'What?' But then I started learning about them and putting them on, and she created a little monster," Saldana says in a behind-the-scenes video of her photo shoot for The Hollywood Reporter’s 2013 stylists issue, which celebrates the industry's most powerful stylists.
Although Saldana describes Flannery as naturally elegant and quiet, she adds that the two become "goofballs" when they are creating a look.
Flannery says there’s so much mutual respect between stylist and actress that Saldana will try something on even if she doesn’t love it on the hanger.
"We try. We push each other," Saldana says. "I’ve been pushed so much with Petra, I wear pink now."
The actress also speaks fondly of her 2012 Independent Spirit Awards look as her favorite in recent memory. "The flowers and the pastel tone to it made me feel so jovial," Saldana says.
The actress, whose Star Trek Into Darkness opens in May, says her directors now know Flannery’s work and recognize its "essential place" in the press-tour circuit.
"When they see me wearing something, it's like, ‘Oh my God, Petra really knocked it out of the ballpark.' And I’m like, ‘Yeah, she kind of did. She killed it.'"
THR’s stylists issue features four covers of stars and their stylists, including Saldana and Flannery, Jennifer Lopez and Rob Zangardi & Mariel Haenn, Taylor Swift and Joseph Cassell and Julianne Moore and Leslie Fremar.
