Zombie Thriller 'War of the Dead' Bows at Toronto After Dark Film Fest
Marko Makilassko's Lithuanian thriller is one of eight titles announced Wednesday for the Canadian genre fest's Oct. 20-27 run.
TORONTO – The Toronto After Dark Film Festival is giving a world premiere to the Lithuanian war zombie pic War of the Dead, by director Marko Makilaasko and starring Andrew Tiernan (300, The Pianist).
The genre war movie portrays Second World War American soldiers terrorized in a Russian forest by, wait for it: zombies run amok.
The Toronto genre fest is also giving a world bow to writer/director Jason Trost’s Vs, where James Remar (Dexter) plays a despicable super-villain who forces four super heroes to contend in impossible-to-win games.
Lucas Till and Sean Whalen also star in the thriller from Grindfist.
After Dark also booked fest circuit favorite The Inkeepers, by director Ti West, as its closing night gala on October 27.
The fest earlier chose the Canadian comedy horror pic Monster Brawl, starring Dave Foley and Art Hindle, to open its sixth edition on October 20.
There’s also a world premiere for Father’s Day, a revenge thriller by five Canadian filmmakers that comprise Astron 6, which is also bringing the sci-fi action pic Manborg to the Toronto fest.
The latest lineup announcements from After Dark also point to booking for Scott Leberecht’s vampire drama Midnight Son, Evan Kelly’s The Corridor, and A Lonely Place to Die, by Julian Gilbey.
