'The Adventures of Tintin': New Trailer Promises Indiana Jones-Style Action
The latest trailer for Steven Spielberg’s animated adventure film looks like a throwback to the director’s ‘80s glory days.
Excitement over Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin movie kicked into a new gear this week as reviews from the film's European media screening started whizzing around the Internet. Many reviewers have been drawing comparisons to Spielberg's early Indiana Jones movies (ironic, considering Spielberg first learned about Tintin when European critics continually compared Raiders of the Lost Ark to the comic book character).
THR’s reviewer Jordan Mintzer said the movie is “a good ol’ fashioned adventure flick that harkens back to the filmmaker’s action-packed, tongue-in-cheek swashbucklers of the 1980s.”
The new trailer released on Monday certainly plays up the Indiana Jones adventure aspect. Intrepid reporter Tintin and his faithful dog, Snowy, find themselves in exactly the kind of globe-spanning adventures Indy always found himself in. And the fact that the film is animated allows Spielberg to indulge in the kind of visual gags that can sometimes feel forced in a live action film.
Jamie Bell provides the voice of Tintin, Andy Serkis plays Captain Haddock, the bumbling sidekick, and Daniel Craig voices the pirate Red Rackham.
The film, which was produced by Peter Jackson and is the first in a proposed trilogy, will be released in the United States on December 21, 2011.
