Bruce Dern and Laura Dern to Appear on 'Inside the Actors Studio' (Exclusive)
Bruce Dern, the 77-year-old star of Alexander Payne's Nebraska, has left no stone unturned in his campaign to score the second Oscar nomination of his career 35 years after he was a best supporting actor Oscar nominee for Coming Home.
He has sat through more than 20 screenings of his film, schlepped to virtually every film festival and consented to countless interviews and Q&As -- and now he and his biggest champion, his daughter Laura Dern, an Oscar-nominated actress herself, are going Inside the Actors Studio.
Now, The Hollywood Reporter has learned, for the first time in the history of James Lipton's Emmy-winning show, a father and daughter will appear side-by-side when the Derns' episode, which was taped in New York earlier this month, debuts on Bravo at 7 p.m. EST on Dec. 26.
The elder Dern, who is an alum of the Actors Studio, where he studied alongside the likes of Marilyn Monroe, will discuss his 50 years in the business, during which he played the only character ever to kill John Wayne in a movie, became a close friend and collaborator of Jack Nicholson and never stopped working.
This year, for his performance in Nebraska, he won the Cannes Film Festival and National Board of Review best actor awards and has been nominated for the Screen Actors Guild, Golden Globe and Critics' Choice best actor awards.
